In the archives of the Church of Ardird, there exists a single report, filed by the lone survivor of an encounter with an Earth Master. It was written during the Days of Chaos, at the time of King Verdinius III. The document is brief. The writer states that he fails to find the words to truly describe the sheer terror of the moment. He writes, “It came roaring from inside the earth. Many fell beneath mud, rock and stone. Men and horses were lifted high off the ground and ripped apart. It happened so quickly. What lasted only a few minutes, felt like an eternity. When it was over, the sky rained flesh and blood. Why was I spared?”

Long ago, there was a group of extremely powerful wizards. They celebrated humanity and used their magical gifts to serve the great realm of Etherown. On a particular day, a few of the wizards discovered a strange craft, far beyond Fogak Forest. Inside the craft was the body of what would later become known as an “Ancient”. Along with the body, mysterious black spheres were found. The craft and its contents were transported to the High Temple of Tumut. There it was examined day and night with wonder and great curiosity. The wizards searched for even the smallest clue to the craft’s origin. Meanwhile, the black spheres fed on the power within the temple. A hidden darkness slowly began to creep into the hearts of the wizards. The more they studied the items, the more unwittingly entangled their souls became. Soon, the entire energy of the temple changed. The very walls seemed to whisper death and destruction. The wizards turned on humanity and became known as the Darklords. Their treachery eventually led to The First Great War.
